Estoril Circuit was built in 1972 on a rocky plateau near the village of Alcabideche, 9 km from the town of Estoril. The circuit has two hairpins, significant height changes and a 986 meter long finish straight. The maximum descent here is almost 7%. Over the years, Estoril has had a number of security problems. After Ayrton Senna's death in 1994 at the San Marino Grand Prix, bullying was added to increase the circuit length to 4,360 km.
